Our “backyard” in Coastal Delaware is brimming with arts and entertainment.

Milton native Jimmie Allen headlined the Bettie James Fest at Hudson Fields

Are you one of the 6,000 people who stood in the pouring rain this past Saturday to see Jimmie Allen in concert at Hudson Fields?  He is the Academy of Country Music’s New Male Artist of the Year. Not only is he accomplished, but Jimmie is from Milton, Delaware and went to Cape Henlopen High School!  That’s as local as it gets!  I love seeing someone make it big and give back to their community.

Although Jimmie now lives in Nashville, he frequently visits friends and family in the area and Milton has a special place in his heart. When he visits he goes to the Milton Quick Stop and gives back to the local community by doing benefit concerts or collaborations with Dogfish Head. In addition, he was given a key to the town of Milton and celebrated his ACM award with family and close friends at Irish Eyes in Lewes.

The Freeman Arts Pavilion offers diverse arts performances

Have you ever been to the Freeman Arts Pavilion (formerly The Freeman Stage)?  This outdoor venue is a true treasure located near Fenwick Island, in southern Delaware.  You can enjoy The Beach Boys, The Commodores, Melissa Etheridge, Earth, Wind & Fire this summer… just to name a few of the upcoming shows!

The Joshua M. Freeman Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was established in 2007 to honor Josh Freeman, the former Chair of the Carl M. Freeman Companies, after his passing in December of 2006. The Foundation seeks to honor Josh’s passion and commitment to excellence.  The foundation also provides K-12 students and underserved families of Delmarva year-round, high-quality, diverse arts experiences at no cost.

Over the next several years there will be an expansion of the pavilion, to take place gradually with construction occurring during the off season. Once complete the venue will accommodate 4,000 patrons, with 1,100 under roof!

Many other local entertainment venues

This is just a drop in the bucket of local, intimate venues to take in that will include top-notch performers and free or affordable ticket prices. Make sure to check local publications, such as the Gape Gazette, for entertainment listings.

Outdoor Venues

If you prefer outdoor entertainment, The Rehoboth Beach Bandstand Summer Concert Series offers a wide range of musical options. Slightly further south, Bethany Beach also offers a Concert Series at the Bandstand. Lewes has concerts at Stango Park near the Lewes Public Library as well as Concerts by the Canal at Canalfront Park. If you venture further inland, you can enjoy weekly concerts at Milton Memorial Park. At the Ferry Terminal in Lewes, Grain on the Rocks offers dining and outdoor concerts. Paradise Grill in Long Neck offers three stages of live entertainment and is located next to Indian River Bay.

Indoor-Outdoor Venues

The Milton Theatre offers many indoor entertainment options, as well as their outdoor venue, the Quayside. Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach has been offering live music at their indoor-outdoor venue for decades. In addition, many local restaurants have live entertainment both indoors and outdoors.
